Hello, I've been working with my friend on a couple of tracks he made as part of a project. I offered to try and help with adding objects/TSOs such as grandstands, infield objects, etc. However I've had some issues in trying to place objects. I had a few questions regarding it as I've been looking at a lot of tutorials and am very new to the program. I may ask more questions later on.

1. I will get a popup telling me that it couldn't load the TSO for placement. I'm assuming for that I need all of the MIP files and components for an object to load in.
2. When I am able to load an object, like a grandstand, I just get an invincible rectangle that pops up and it doesn't show anything, just a box-shaped object but nothing is in it. I was wondering what causes that problem and how to fix it.

3. Another track he did that had a granstand and a couple of other things would show up for a moment, but then disappear and show nothing in it afterwards. I was also wondering how to fix that. I've been worried about adjusting anything and all of the objects would disappear if I saved anything.

Thanks!

1. A 3do will need all its associated mips or it cannot be placed on a track
2. When you first place a new 3do in a track it will only show as the bounding box. You need to save the track then reload the save file for it to appear. If you place additional instances of the same 3do on the track they will appear normally.
3. If you place 3dos on a track and they appear but then place more down and they start to turn into bounding boxes then you most likely hit the 3do limit, you can view this thread I created detailing these specific limits and workarounds to be aware of: https://www.adrd-forums.net/index/threads/sandbox-3do-file-limits-within-sandbox.185/

Thanks so much! It helped a lot. If it's ok to ask another question, I've been now having this issue with unpacking tracks (the default papyrus tracks) and it tells me either "Could Not Load Track from Disk" and certain mips aren't found with the flagger.3do objects. I did some research and saw what I needed, but it still said it couldn't load the track from disk. I do have the shared folder where it needs to be because I was able to open default Talladega and couple other tracks, but after that I kept getting the same issue with any other track. Do you know what other solutions there could be?

Thanks again!

Do you have a working tracks folder already? In there you copy over the NR2003 shared tracks folder as papyrus default tracks will reference those files when sandbbox is opening the track. When you unpack a track the files in the 'unpack' folder also need to be moved out into the root track folder as well.

Many years ago I referenced this PDF when making my first track(s) you can reference it for the folder structure that is shown at the start of the tutorial: http://www.thepits.us/files/tutorials/SandboxTrackTutor.pdf (I'll probabaly add this pdf in the tutorial section the future so it can be referenced easily)

I just figured out what the issue was. I had to unpack the shared.dat folder which helped open the track. Sorry about that lol.

Hello again! There was a question I had regarding a track that a friend and I are making for a project. We've been working with sandbox and the INI and we are having issues with pit road. From what we've observed, cars get down to pit road speed where the entrance is in the INI, then they speed up for a moment into the 90s before braking for the first stall. This gets them into what we assume is a loop of infinitely getting black flagged, because they keep coming back down. Its possible the pit stalls themselves have a problem but this is our observation. I'll post a video of what is exactly happening below. We were wondering if this is a common issue and if anyone knows what the best way to fix it is, or if there's another problem.
Also, if anyone has general advice for making a clean INI it would be appreciated, as we are looking to make some tune ups.

In Sandbox have you defined the surface types near pit road as apron, then the pit stalls and pit road?

Are the pit entrance AppRuleEnterPits left and right values correct? They could be flipped meaning the AI (and player) would get black flagged indefintiely for entering the pits incorrectly. Could also check the pit merge lines and make sure they are not within the pit road but the apron before pits.

Hello, we're back on getting this track finished and we've had a consistent issue where cars aren't getting side by side and passing at all. We've noticed on the start, cars would brake when getting too close to each other even when it doesn't make sense to, and think that's the biggest problem but we're not entirely sure. The leader would get off to a lead of multiple seconds after a few laps and it would keep growing, while the field is almost completely single file and spaced out behind. We're trying to figure out if thats an INI or a racing line issue and what would be best to look for. Thanks.

Hard to say without seeing the track but it could be the LP race line that was made has erratic braking which would cause IA to randomly stop when they shouldn't. INI settings llike panic could make them slow down think there is a wreck as well. Lot of factors in the ini. The thing I usually do when making a new track is I make good LP lines (race line especially). Then I copy a similar ini for the same track type then tweak it from there. Also make sure you max and min lines are not swapped. Max need to be on the left and min on the right.
