How do enable backfaces?

I noticed in a handful of tracks that their 3dos have backfaces visible, however when I do it the faces are gone

Can you give us more info about how you verified that it's a backface that's been set to visible?

You need to set your material in 3ds to 2-sided. Keep in mind to only use it for models that need to see both sides.
