Decided to make a whole fleet of #57's, of which I'm not even close to finished with. This number hasn't seen much notable action, with the the primary entries being Rod Osterlunds Heinz Pontiac, Jason Keller throughout the 90's and in to the early 2000's, Hendrick's extra Busch car in 2005-2006, and finally was the primary number for Norm Benning throughout the tail end of the 2000's and early 2010's.

#57 - Norm Benning - Unsponsored - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

First off is a Norm Benning machine, based off of the cars run at the turn of the 2010's at Daytona, of which he DNQ'd twice and withdrew a third. The quarter panel logo is taken from Benning's 2008 car he tested at Daytona before the season, but didn't find a sponsor in time.

#57 - Mike Senica - Unsponsored - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Mike Senica primarily drove the #57 in the truck series as a 2nd Start & Park team for Norm Benning in 2017 after the latter had switched his primary number to the #6.

#57 - Derrike Cope - Calcium Lime Rust - Ford Taurus

Derrike Cope attempted a few races with Team CLR at the end of 2001 and early 2002, qualifying at Kansas, where he finished 24th, and DNQ'ing next week at Charlotte, later in 2001 at Homestead, and in 2002 at Vegas.

#57 - Kevin Lepage - Calcium Lime Rust - Ford Taurus

For Kevin Lepage's 2003 entry I decided to go for his Black car from Indianapolis, which provides a nice contrast from Cope's Silver car. He would make both of his attempts finishing 30th in Indy and 31st at Michigan respectively.

Now I've shifted gears to the next number, the #58. Here is another batch of 4 cars. I'm not done with the #57, and certainly done done with this number either, but I don't want to miss the forest for the trees so to speak.

#58 - Ricky Craven - Hollywood Video - Ford Taurus

This is my interpretation of the Hollywood Video car Craven drive at the start of 1999. It's far from 100% accurate, especially at the rear which I sort of free-handed. Craven secured just one top 20 finish before his release, that being the first Richmond race, and DNQ'd for the Coke 600.

#58 - Hut Stricklin - Turbine Solutions - Ford Taurus

After the release of Craven, the team cycled through a few drivers before landing on Stricklin to round out the year, of which he too would end up on the DNQ list a few times. Despite the look of a fully funded team, Turbine Solutions was actually owned by team owner Scott Barbour, who after a prospective long term sponsor's checks bounced, shuttered the team before seasons end. This car is FAR from accurate, as the number font and logo placement were based on a Hotwheels Diecast car, while the Turbine Solutions logo is also likely the wrong font.

#58 - Ken Schrader - Kodiak Tobacco - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This car is based off of an ARCA entry Schrader fielded in 1991 at Topeka, in which he started on the pole, and went on to win in his only start of the year. I've made this car before, but this is an improved version that you see here.

#58 - Chris Horn - Unsponsored - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Chris Horn is an independent driver who ran in trucks from 1999-2003 and then moved to the Busch series from 2004-2009, generally running a small handful of races each year. This car is based off his 2002 Truck, primarily the Texas version, which had a black bed cover, which I replicated on the decklid here.

Continuing with #58, we got 5 more entries to the roster.

#58 - Jeff Purvis - Leukemia Society of America - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Another re-interperetation of a old car, Jeff Purvis drove this scheme at the 1995 NAPA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, as an insurance policy for Jeff Gordon in the latters bid for the title. To secure the title, Jeff Gordon needed to finish 42nd or better, so Hendrick entered 2 extra cars(the #58 pictured here, and the #59 DNQ'd by Jack Sprague) with the intent to Start and Park to ensure the Wonder Boy could clinch the Winston Cup. Though with Ken Schrader's #25 falling out ealy with Engine troubles, the #58 was allowed to finish out the race, securing a 26th place finish.

#58 - Mario Gosselin - Carter Grandle Casual Furniture - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This is also a car I had done ages ago that I have gone over and refreshed, after finding better footage of the car. Mario Gosselin would drive for owner Larry Fuda in 2000, wherein he crashed twice, and DNQ'd a third race, in what would be an unproductive campaign.

#58 - Chad Hackenbracht - Unsponsored - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Chad Hackenbracht ran three seasons in the ARCA series in his own Chevrolet's, with the highlight being a win at Pocono in 2012. Unfortunately Hackenbracht's career would never take off, with only a few Truck and Nationwide starts to his name before he was out of the sport.

#58 - Wayne Jacks - Southwest Paving/Imperial Palace - Pontiac Grand Prix

Wayne Jacks was a Winston West regular from the 1990's, who was known for running on a shoestring budget. This car is based off of Jack's 1994 Indianapolis car, in which he was one of many Winston West competitors to attempt the race.

#58 - Jerry Bowman - Aberdeen Travel Center - Ford Taurus

A blast from the past, Jerry Bowman was an independent driver from the early-mid 80's, who primarily ran Ford products. This car is based off of Bowman's 1984 Dover 1 car, which he would finish a solid 13th, the only race that year he was running at the finish.

Now jumping all the way to #99, most of these schemes are Roush cars of some description.

#99 - Jeff Burton - Citgo - Ford Taurus

This is the 2002 version of Jeff Burton's Citgo Ford, in my opinion the best looking one of the lot. Jeff Burton's Citgo years would see a steady decline in performance, going from 2 wins and 8 top 5's in 2001 to 0 wins and 3 top 5's in 2003, while generally staying around the 10-12th in points region, and a drop in both Average Start and Average Finish across all 3 seasons.

#99 - Kurt Busch - Exide Batteries - Ford Taurus

This is essentially a reworking of a Jeff Burton car I made about a year or two ago, just edited slightly to match Kurt Busch's 2000 Truck. Busch would pick up 4 wins, 13 top 5's and 16 top 10's, en route to second in the points to team mate Greg Biffle.

#99 - Kyle Busch - Eldon - Ford Taurus

Kyle Busch would make his NASCAR debut for Jack Roush late in the 2001 season, after the team rotated through several drivers. Busch would notably be at the center of a controversy at the 2nd to last race of the season at California, in which Kyle Busch was unable to race due to the CART Series race, in which the Truck race was an undercard event for, was sponsored by Tobacco company Marlboro, thus barring the thw 16 year old shrub to compete. After this, NASCAR would impose an age limit to 18 years old, now simply enforced on the "big tracks"

#99 - Carl Edwards- Office Depot - Ford Taurus

Carl Edwards would carry Office Depot sponsorship from 2005 to 2008, being in contention for the 2008 title (ultimately lost to Jimmie Johnson) and establishing himself as one of the series top drivers. This car is based on Edwards 2006-2007 Paint Scheme in particular.

#99 - Ryan Reed- Lilly Diabetes - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

In 2016, Roush Racing fielded the #99 car for Ryan Reed at the fall Talladega race, after the cars dormancy post-Edwards leaving after 2013. This would be the 22 year old driver's only Cup Start, rolling off the grid in 18th and finishing 26th on the lead lap. A fun fact is Ryan Reed was not the first in his family to run in the Cup Series, as his father Mark Reed made 2 Cup starts at the turn of the 90's in companion races with the Winston West series, in which the elder Reed won 2 races.

The next batch pivots to Hendrick Motorsports, and the Famed #24, of which we have 4 drivers as of now, all of them updates/refreshes of older schemes.

#24 - Jeff Gordon - Dupont Automotive Finishes - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The iconic DuPont flames scheme always stands out, though Jeff Gordon didn't quite find the same success as in the famed Rainbow car. Though a Championship and being a regular contender for wins and championships make this still a successful venture for the Wonder Boy.

#24 - Jack Sprague - Quaker State - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Jack Sprague was one of the original kings of the Truck series, having won 3 titles and having several battles with the likes of Mike Skinner and Ron Hornaday in the series early days. This is based on his early 1996 Truck, before they switched to an all green scheme for 1997.

#24 - Ricky Hendrick - GMAC Financial - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The late heir apparent to the Hendrick Empire, Ricky Hendrick drove this #24 scheme for 3 races in 2001, finishing 18th at Charlotte, 15th at Kentucky, and 41st after an engine went south at Homestead.

#24 - Chase Elliott - NAPA Auto Parts - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Chase Elliott's time in the #24 was a mixed bag, as while he was unarguably competitive, he failed to win in the iconic #24 despite several close calls. A switch to his fathers famous #9 quickly remedied the winning issues though.

#24 - William Byron - Hertz Rental Cars - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

A more out there choice of a paint scheme for William Byron, I went with the yellow and black Hertz car instead of a Liberty or Axalta car, as none of the prior really caught my eye, while the latter were either not interesting or flew too close to the Jeff Gordon nest.

#24 - Cecil Gordon - Johnson Truck Body - Ford Taurus

Before Jeff Gordon took the reigns of the #24, the numbers most prominent driver was another, completely unrelated Gordon in independent owner/driver Cecil Gordon. Cecil ran his own cars from 1970 to 1983, never winning a race. But the North Carolna native DID finish in the top 10 5 straight times from 1973 to 1975, with a best finish of 3rd in the points, which is not bad for a man striking out on his own, outranking the likes of Richard Petty, Buddy Baker, and Bobby Allison.

#24 - Benny Gordon - Unsponsored - Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Look what we have here, yet ANOTHER totally 100% all natural unrelated Gordon piloting a #24 car XD. Benny Gordon drove SR2 Motorsport's Toyota's for 11 races. Gordon's best finish would be 12th at the season opener, after which he would fail to crack the top 20 in the 10 starts thereafter. For this project I'm currently of the state of mind of only using the 4 makes that come with Cup2000 with no alt manufactures, and as such this car that ran Toyota IRL has been switched to a Chevrolet.

I've been considering the best way to do it, as most of them have little to no theming. If I figure out how to beat present it, I might release them, but that is to be seen.

Not exactly a paint scheme, but I'm back to modifying NASCAR Thunder 2003 models, and in the process created an alt make, that asks What-If AMC survievd until the early 2000's and made a semi-reto style Matador?

BTW this still heavily W.I.P



To start with I took the Pontiac model, and started reworking the windows. The quarter window shape is meant to harken back to the 1974-1978 Matador Coupe. The rounded rear window is not based off of any AMC model, but I felt it added a unique dimension, adding to the rounded shape that I wanted, again aping the mid 70's Matador. The headlights started off as the AMX's headlights, initially trying to mimic the Matador's frog eyed headlight. But I added a second smaller light , and added side markers and lower reflectors, modernizing the design. I Added a lengthwise upper grill, taking from the earlier matador shape, before deciding to edit the nose geometry to mape the sedan version of the 74-78 Matador with the kick out on the nose. The hood shading was also specially done to again emphasise the nose kick. The tail lights are the same as on the 74-78 Matador Coupe, but I added shading to suggest a small recess, mainly to add extra styling to the rear. A shading line over the rear fender once again emphasises what would be a charcter line, again referncing the shape of the 70's Coupe and serving a similar purpose to similar lines on the 2000-2005 Chevy Monte Carlo. Finally I subtlely drooped the rear deck downwards and rounded forwards the upper portion of the rear bumper, another nod to the rounded shape of the car it's directly inspired by. Also the rear spoiler was smoothed since the notched spoiler was a Pontiac trait.

I've slowly been making parody logos, for potential use in video game creation. Of now I have 3 finished logos to show.

Back with more to show, this time taking another crack at the low poly side of things, this time with appropriate crunchy textures, and a progression showcase.

Phase 1: Basic Model

I initially started by creating the 3d model to use for the project, of which came out to 292 tri's, benchmarked against Papyrus's NASCAR Racing 3 model's 357.

Phase 2: Window Texturing

Next I shifted my focus to texturing the windows, my first usage of color indexing and dithering.

Phase 3: Basic Body Texture

The next step was working the body, including all of the shading and texture detail that would grace the model, truly bringing it to life.

Phase 4: Paint Scheme Time

Finally it came time to actually put paint to canvas, and after about an hour and a half of work, this is the finished product.

To showcase the flexibility of my low poly model, I have turned my Pontiac Grand Prix into an entirely different car, in this case, a 2000 Chevy Camaro

With the model having several major overhauls since the Bobby Labonte car, I decided it was time to make another paint scheme on the current iteration. Ultimately I decided on doing one of the fantasy schemes from NASCAR Racing 3, and I feel like it turned out pretty good if I do say so myself.

You always make great schemes no matter the mod. It's always great to see the fictional schemes that were in other NASCAR games get ported into the GOAT racing game. Keep up the great work.
